Work Package 4 — Energy refurbishment

The work package Energy efficiency through refurbishment and climate adaptation focuses on identifying active and passive retrofit measures that improve energy efficiency while supporting climate adaptation. Its core objective is to develop a comprehensive catalogue of energy efficiency and climate adaptation measures and apply selected solutions to project case studies, with UPC leading the selection and application phase. These measures are essential for creating realistic, demonstrative case studies and are a cornerstone of the project’s ambition to transform districts into Positive Energy Districts, where energy efficiency plays a central role.

Currently, the team is finalising the first task: completing the catalogue by mapping, describing, and standardising retrofit and adaptation measures, supported by an extensive literature review. The catalogue, delivered as an Excel-based tool and due by May 2026, will include quantifiable impacts using KPIs such as energy performance and CO2 emissions. Challenges around inconsistent descriptions and limited impact data in existing literature are being addressed through harmonisation and, in the next phase, through simulations led by WP5 to refine impact estimates
