Work Package 2 — PED morphologies for urban regeneration and refurbishment

This work package focuses on understanding how urban form influences the transformation of campuses and districts into Positive Energy Districts. It combines an analytical goal, defining key urban morphology parameters related to buildings blocks, with a strategic goal of developing urban regeneration strategies. This work package has played a foundational role in the project, setting up a shared knowledge base on urban form that has enabled other work packages to advance their activities with a consistent spatial and conceptual framework.

During the current phase, the main achievement has been the completion of the urban morphology parameters, formalised in deliverable “PED morphology parameters” by the end of 2025. This milestone addressed a significant gap in existing research by consolidating a previously undefined set of parameters from extensive literature. The next phase, running from 2026 to 2027, will focus on translating this analytical work into practical urban regeneration guidelines. While a key challenge has been communicating the relevance of urban morphology within the broader project, site visits and direct engagement with the campuses are seen as a major opportunity to strengthen the development of effective, evidence based urban strategies.
